News Release on P&G Children's Safe Drinking Water

Today the Company will announce a new plant to be built in Singapore to manufacture the PUR packets.   The new plant will open in 2012 and will have an initial capacity of making at least 200 million PUR packets a year – enough to purify 2 billion liters of clean drinking water each year.   Note that this means that by 2012, we’ll be able to deliver every year the amount of life-saving clean water that we’ve delivered since the start of the P&G Children’s Safe Drinking Water Program in 2004.   This announcement, summarized in the attached media release, shows the Company’s tremendous support of our focal philanthropy program of P&G Live, Learn, and Thrive.

P&G Children's Safe Drinking Water and Partners Provide 200 Millionth PUR Packet and Other News

The P&G Children's Safe Drinking Water (CSDW) Program has now provided 2 billion liters of clean drinking water in the developing world by working with more than 100 partners to provide 200 million PUR packets.  I've attached a media release from Wednesday that includes a quote from Bob McDonald showing the top-level P&G support for this effort to save lives. We estimate that the P&G CSDW program has now saved more than 10,000 lives and prevented more than 79 million days of potentially deadly waterborne disease.  In addition, the American Journal of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene issued the attached news release yesterday regarding a publication in their April issue.  This study led by our partners at CDC showed sustainable reduction in school absenteeism when PUR was used to treat drinking water along with provision of handwashing stations.  Finally, I've attached a media release from last week that announces a partnership with USAID, P&G, Abt Associates, and Catholic Relief Services to stockpile PUR in Central America and provide advance training to emergency personnel so that we are prepared to respond to future disasters.  Best regards, Greg Greg Allgood, MSPH, PhDDirector Children’s Safe Drinking Water
