Culture and Cuisine Group members!

Arepas Day!
at Veronica's house.

Hundreds of years ago, arepas were being cooked by indigenous tribes across Venezuela, on the northern tip of South America. In fact, the name arepa comes from the indigenous word Erepa, which means corn.
Arepas are corn patties that are widely popular in both Colombian and Venezuelan cuisine. Imagine a corn tortilla crossed with a tamale, but shaped like an English muffin.
Arepas can be enjoyed on their own or stuffed with fillings, giving them a versatile role in any meal, much like bread. Arepas are like blank canvases waiting to be adorned with tasty fillings. Depending on the region or household, you can stuff them with a variety of ingredients such as cheese, meats, beans, vegetables, or even leftovers from the fridge, haha! The possibilities are endless!

You will have some of the most popular fillings to try.  I hope that after this day, you adopt Arepas as your own...keeping in mind that the possibilities for combinations are endless!
